Why do people hate children so much? I understand that not everyone wants to be a parent and that’s fine, but you still should make an effort to treat them with respect and basic decency. To me there’s very little more ironic than millennials complaining about not being taken seriously or respected, and then bad-mouthing little kids and acting like they’re horrible. (And I realize that the last couple generations have been increasingly hostile to children, I just think it’s funny that people who complain about getting no respect refuse to give it to their equivalents.)

I think this is one of the many ways this world shows rebellion and disrespect for Him. Jesus made a point to defend children:

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. – Matthew 19:13-15

Jesus also told us we must become like little children in our trust and faith in Him:

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 18:1-4

I don’t think it’s a mere coincidence that it’s become a trend that the world accepts and actually encourages hatred toward children. Whether it’s the promotion of dehumanizing and murdering the unborn or vilifying children who have been born, it’s a mentality that is normalized and people who point out how warped it is are commonly mocked and faced with hostility. It’s clear that the enemy is behind this, especially since many people who are pro children hating can’t see the hypocrisy in berating children yet decrying their parents for mistreating them when they were children. When the enemy is at work, people’s actions usually don’t make much sense because he is the father of lies and confusion.

Like you said, it’s fine if people don’t want to be parents. I’m personally someone who feels being a parent is not for me. A person can even not particularly enjoy the company of children without having a toxic attitude about it. But not wanting to be a parent or not being wild about being around children doesn’t justify a person degrading children and treating them like garbage. Children aren’t oblivious. They will pick up if someone acts hatefully toward them and experiences like this will damage them.

“Children aren’t oblivious. They will pick up if someone acts hatefully toward them and experiences like this will damage them.”

This.

Children are people. Not animals. Not property. Not robots. Stop treating them like anything other than what they are.
